As of 3 pm in the urban local government elections, 47.18% of the votes have been registered in Tamil Nadu. Elections are being held in Tamil Nadu for 648 urban local bodies including 21 corporations, 138 municipalities and 489 municipalities. Voting, which began at 7 a.m., is in full swing. From the early hours of the morning, the general public, political leaders and actors and actresses have been standing in line and eagerly fulfilling their democratic duty. With an estimated 2 crore 83 lakh voters across Tamil Nadu, 30,735 polling booths have been set up and 1.60 lakh electronic voting machines have been used.
Elections have been postponed in several places due to clashes between political parties. In this situation, only 47.18% votes have been registered in the urban local government elections in Tamil Nadu as of 3 o’clock. The turnout was 61.38% in municipalities, 53.49% in municipalities and 39.13% in corporations. The highest turnout was 65.68% in Dharmapuri, 64.19% in Namakkal and 63.56% in Karur district.
Meanwhile, voting in Chennai has been sluggish since morning. As of 3 pm, only 31.89% of the votes were cast in Chennai. At 9 a.m., only 3.96 percent of the vote had been cast, rising to 17.88 percent at 11 p.m. As of one o’clock, 23.42 percent of the vote had been cast. As of 3 p.m., 47.18% of the vote has been cast. The fact that more than half do not vote shows that people are not interested in voting in urban local elections.
