Venkatachalam hails from Ammambalaiyam near Attur in Salem district. Retired from Tamil Nadu Forest Department. In 2019, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board during the last regime.

In this context, on September 24, bribery officers raided Venkatachalam’s house and other properties owned by him.

During the raid, 13 lakh 50 thousand rupees in cash, 11 kg of gold, 4 kg of silverware and 15 kg of sandalwood were seized by the Anti-Corruption Police. Following this, Supriya Sahoo was given additional responsibility as the Chairperson of the Pollution Control Board.

Following this, a case was registered against former Pollution Control Board Chairman Venkatachalam under the Tamil Nadu Forest Conservation Act.

Forest officials have filed a case against Venkatachalam for illegally possessing sandalwood trees. Various cases have been registered against Venkatachalam on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Department for using his power to commit corruption and embezzlement. These cases are under investigation.

Meanwhile, Venkatachalam, former chairman of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, committed suicide at his home in Velachery, Chennai today.
