To apply the ENFIA discount to the insured homes without exceptions

The president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce Mr. G. Hatzitheodosiou states how the law should be applied to all insured homes and without exceptions.

With the start of application of the law on the discount against 10% to LIGHT of insured homes, it is useful to mention some cases that typically do not meet the conditions for their inclusion in the new measure.

These are old insurance policies which: a) either do not have flood coverage and b) or are priced below 900 euros per square meter. Both of these conditions are currently necessary to provide the 10% discount.

For this specific issue, president of the E.E.A. Mr. G. Hadzitheodosiou states how the law should apply to all insured homes and without exceptions.

Mr. Hadjitheodosiou’s exhortation to the State is for this year – the 1st year of application of the measure – to apply to everyone and not to confuse the purpose of the law and the importance it has for citizens and private insurance.

“Not to send wrong messages due to a few cases of insurance policies, for which the owner of the residence is not responsible”, points out the president of the E.E.A. and submits the proposal for cases that do not meet all the conditions, to receive the prescribed discount this year and to have the time frame to complete their contracts based on what the law stipulates.

It should be noted that according to the legislation to give the discount 10% properties must be insured for: 1. fire, 2. earthquake and 3. flood.

Mr. Hatzitheodosiou emphasizes that it should be known to the property owners that in some of the old contracts there was no flood coverage, while the insurance costs were below the 900 euros per square meter building. It is recalled that by law this amount is considered as the minimum limit to grant the discount for 2023.

So with these two “failures”, today some homeowners do not meet the necessary conditions so there is a question of getting the deduction provided by the new law.

As Mr. Hatjitheodosiou emphasizes, “besides, there were no time margins for adjustment for such a large volume of contracts, so we consider it unfair that there are cases that will not benefit from the 10% discount in ENFIA. It’s a real shame to spoil the momentum of this culture change effort.”

In this context, proposal of the president of the E.E.A. it is for this year that the law should be applied without exception to all house owners who have insured them in order not to dynamit the effort that has been made and not to alter the essence and purpose of the law. Those cases that, due to the particularity of the contract, do not meet the conditions, it is estimated that they will hurry to supplement their coverages in order to meet them in full in the following years.
