Mazan rape trial, revelations about Abbé Pierre or rape followed by Philippine’s murder: dozens of demonstrations took place on Saturday 19 October in front of the French courts for “denounce rape culture”at the request of several feminist groups.
One of them, Dare Feminism, asks “institutional revolution”in particular so that the “Justice has finally been served to the 94,000 victims of rape and sexual violence every year in France”.
In Lyon, more than 300 people gathered in front of the court, some of them dressed like Rosie the Riveter, wearing overalls and a red scarf with white polka dots tied on her head, a character from popular culture who has become a symbol of female emancipation.
In Paris, about a hundred people gathered in front of the court, carrying placards and challenging slogans “Let shame change sides” OR “What does justice do? ». “Enough with the denial”was written on another sign, when another message said: “0.6% of those convicted of rape, we can do better. »
“Stop dismissals”
In Marseille, where around thirty people gathered, several demonstrators carried a sign with the image of Gisèle Pelicot, singing “stop the non-place” et “conviction for rapists”. In front of the courthouse in Toulouse, at the beginning of the afternoon, there were around a hundred demonstrators in front of a large banner with the words “Rapist outside university hospital”. The Haute-Garonne mobilization had, in fact, a particular connotation, while a medical student sentenced to five years in prison for sexual violence will have to return to his medical training in Toulouse in November.
In September, 10,000 people marched through the streets of France in support of Gisèle Pelicot, who refused to hold the closed-door trial of her ex-husband, who drugged her to rape her and had dozens rape her of strangers. Fifty other men, aged between 36 and 74, are on trial alongside her ex-husband. “I dedicate [ce combat] to all people, women and men, in the world, victims of sexual violence”he told the press.
