An accessory that passes the masculinity test
When starting the conversation, we briefly wander into the origins of the birth of an exclusive accessory and the goals of creative pursuits. When asked what thoughts Rūta set out on this journey with, the author remembers the moment of the grasshopper’s birth:
“At the beginning of the process, 8 years ago, I had set myself a task: to create men’s jewelry that would not be afraid even those who appreciate minimalist style. After finding a heart-warming result during the construction phase, I asked the men around me whether I am crossing the line when the accessory becomes so visually gorgeous that I want to assign it to a female audience as well. But the grasshopper passed the “masculinity” test – today it is adorned by thousands of men all over the world!”
Rūta answers the question whether, when creating grasshoppers, the author had in mind the occasions on which they could be worn:
“Creation is limitless, often uncontrollable, colorful, so I want customers to feel free to fasten a grasshopper whenever they want. After all, if a person wants to draw attention to himself, feel dressed up – after doing this, he will definitely feel more special, happier, so the creative goal will be 100% justified.”
The main fans of “grasshoppers” in Lithuania
“I am especially pleased by the trend that more and more people are finding this Lithuanian accessory, which creates an eye-catching tie-bow tie effect. Although the majority of grasshoppers go abroad, in Lithuania they are a wedding or special occasion men’s accessory. The groom, as well as the parents, groomsmen or witnesses of the young, are increasingly looking for “something extraordinary”.
In my opinion, the guests wear ties and bow ties, and the groom must radiate exclusivity, allow himself more than on all other occasions, and grasshoppers are perfect for this, which can acquire the most diverse color and texture solutions,” – shares the creator R.Piekurienė’s thoughts.
As weddings become more modern, classic style details are often abandoned, sports-style shoes are chosen and no accessories are worn. Ruty Design author says:
“Everyone makes their own choice, but I will not hide that the grasshopper becomes the “crown” of the young image at a wedding of any style. This is emphasized and told by all my clients.
Men are very impressed that they not only look unique with a grasshopper, but also feel comfortable. This accessory does not tighten the neck at all, and the feeling of freedom and comfort when choosing clothing details is probably the most important thing for men. So the grasshopper will suit all stylistic decisions and will allow you to feel yourself on special occasions, breathe freely and enjoy an image detail that will become part of your memories.”
When asked by the creator if it is possible to call grasshoppers a wedding accessory, she answers that it is only a part of the holidays, when brave men choose this “cousin” of a tie or bow tie. Other holidays, when grasshoppers decorate men who know their value or even children, are christenings, anniversaries, graduations, and graduations. Two grasshoppers are often ordered for christenings: a small one for the son and a larger one for the father.
“When young people are decorated with grasshoppers at their prom, I feel infinite pride that such a charming, confident generation is growing up, who like to emphasize and express themselves.
As for christenings or other occasions where father-son combinations are chosen, I am sure that this will be a comfortable and safe accessory for the little one, which will melt the hearts of all mothers, grandmothers and aunts,” Rūta shares her thoughts.
From a selection of hundreds of designs to individual orders
“Ruty design” grasshoppers are limited edition, so meeting another person with the same accessory would be like a miracle. However, according to Rūta, the most frequent inquiries start with the question of whether it is possible to order an individually designed grasshopper. Lithuanian creativity is fascinating because there is always a lot of attention in the relationship with the creator, so the client will always get the same answer to this question – it will be positive.
The creator says that in many cases the buyer is very surprised that that exceptional grasshopper has already been created.
True, there are various situations when a rarer color is needed, usually combined with the lady’s dress or the theme of the celebration. For example, ash rose or bright emerald – then you have to shake the most secret fabric chests and go around several stores so that the customer remains happy with his choice.
There is room for women in the world of grasshoppers
After looking through the range of accessories created by Rūta, the eye falls on the line for women and the charming name “Žiogaitė”, which is very pleasant to the Lithuanian ear. The author smiles and nods that her work does not discriminate against age or gender. In any case, women play a special role in the history of grasshoppers!
“Beginning with the role of advisors when a man needs to choose a piece of jewelry, they have become my great inspirers, inspirers and creative engine that encourages me to look for more and more sophisticated options. Therefore, the collection of women’s grasshoppers is constantly expanding and I can confidently speed up with my fantasies.
When designing for women, I don’t worry that it will be too fancy. They are much freer in their style experiments” – the Lithuanian designer is happy with the development of the women’s accessories collection.
It also responds to the needs of families
As soon as men boldly introduced grasshoppers into their holidays and wardrobe, additional inquiries poured in as to whether the accessory maker offers grasshoppers for children. Although the neck circumference of this accessory is adjustable, and at the age of 7-8, you can choose a universal model, as interest grew, the creative house decided to create a separate line of children’s accessories for the little ones.
Rūta’s greatest appreciation is customer loyalty and the opportunity to grow her business.
“At the fairs, while communicating live with people, we constantly felt that as the beginning of the school year or public holidays approaches, those looking for a uniform, occasion or national accessory with the tricolor are interested in our children’s shoes. Responding to repeated requests, we created a slightly simpler construction, selected stronger fabrics, fun ornaments and decor. This set of decisions was very favorably received by the little ones”, says R. Piekurienė.
After the first season of children’s design accessories, according to the woman, the number of requests to change school ties into grasshoppers is increasing. It turns out that parents and teachers are not always satisfied with this part of the uniform.
It is often complained that she interferes in art classes, in the canteen, when children are playing, snoring. And it’s quite understandable – a long tie flutters, always trying to “sneak” into soup or gouache. School bow ties are also “capricious” – they constantly turn around and hardly stay in the intended horizontal position.
“At that time, the grasshopper is a short vertical knot. It is easy to fasten and always remains in a stable position. It’s much easier to look neat, and it’s much more comfortable for children to wear, which is why we also receive requests from schools that have already decided to include our Lithuanian, uniquely designed grasshoppers in their uniform line” – the creator is happy about the growing circle of customers, ending the conversation.
