Mayor Leoluca Orlando, together with Superintendent Marco Betta, welcomed maestro Placido Domingo this morning, on stage from 19 to 27 February at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo with Simon Boccanegra.
To Maestro Domingo, with great admiration and gratitude for his presence in the city in our magnificent Teatro Massimo, I handed over the official medal of the City of Palermo. Placido Domingo represents, in its various aspects and in its totality, opera worldwide, said the mayor. Domingo, before receiving the medal, signed the honorary book of the city with his name in music. With a special dedication: What a great emotion – wrote the maestro – to find myself in Palermo and in this Teatro Massimo, unique in beauty and tradition. `Oh you Palermo terra adore (wrote Verdi!). With deep friendship.
