New increases in the price of cigarettes or extension of “tobacco-free spaces” at the beach, in the park or near schools: the government presented on November 28, 2023 a new plan to combat smoking to “meet the challenge of generation free of tobacco by 2032”.

This new national tobacco control program (PNLT) 2023-2027 is mainly based on “strengthening taxation and bans surrounding tobacco”, explained the Minister of Health and Prevention, Aurélien Rousseau. The objective is in particular to prevent the entry into smoking, particularly among the youngest, and to better help smokers to quit, especially the poorest.
