Today, independence is the freedom to name and defend your interests in a complex and conflicting world, stated in his speech on the occasion of the 116th anniversary of the declaration of Independence, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Raya Nazaryan. The celebration of the historic date in Veliko Tarnovo is under the patronage of the Speaker of the Parliament and ended with a solemn dawn at the foot of the Tsarevets hill, the press center of the National Assembly announced.

The Speaker of the National Assembly accepted the report of the commander of the ceremonial dawn inspection at “Tsar Asen I” Square and delivered a speech on the occasion of the anniversary of the declaration of the Independence of Bulgaria.

Being independent today is neither self-sufficiency, nor isolation, nor a fence from the outside world, the Speaker of the National Assembly pointed out in his speech. Independence is the right, but also the obligation to seek coincidence with the interests of others, to defend them for ourselves, but also for others, stressed Raya Nazaryan. According to her, this is the cause of Bulgaria today – to assert its independence in the family of the civilized world. Only the independent gets respect and is capable of self-respect, she added.

Raya Nazaryan noted that the aspiration of our people towards freedom and progress is unchanged in the Bulgarian destinies, and the supreme manifestation of this urge was September 22, 1908 – the day on which the Independence of Bulgaria was declared. Liberated and united, Bulgaria does not stop until it categorically declares its complete Independence – crown of our national liberation aspirations, with which we become an equal and sovereign European state, she emphasized.

Our independence is the won and dearly paid dignity of our people, said the Speaker of the Parliament. Today we look at the historic Tsarevets hill with the self-confidence of an ancient and proud people, noted Raya Nazaryan. Having rejected the oppression of totalitarianism, today we share the path and dreams of generations of Bulgarians for a dignified and sovereign Bulgaria in the European Union, a union of half a billion free and prosperous people, which, despite stormy times, difficulties and challenges, zealously defends the European achievements of humanism and the well-being of its people citizens, she pointed out.

The ceremony was attended by people’s representatives, ministers, the mayor of Veliko Tarnovo Daniel Panov, the regional governor Ivaylo Zdravkov, the chairman of the municipal council Vencislav Spirdonov and many citizens.
