With the aim of creating awareness among the public, World Spinal Cord Fracture Day is observed annually on September 5th (today). .This day is being observed since 2016 as per the request of the International Cord Organization. Awareness programs are held on this particular day. Gnanasundari, one of the administrators of the Spinal Cord Injury Victims Organization, from Pollachi, Coimbatore, is conducting a related study. He said, “In Tamil Nadu alone, 300 to 400 people are affected every year. Falling from high places and being involved in motor vehicle accidents are the main causes. It is necessary for the public to be aware of this,” he said. The government provides assistance such as wheelchairs, assistive devices and scooters to the spinal cord victims.
