Today is the birthday of the National Hero of Azerbaijan Natig Gasimov.

As Day.Az reports, during the first Karabakh war, the Azerbaijani hero Natig Gasimov fought alone with Armenian militants for five days, without water or food.

N. Gasimov was born in 1971 in the village of Kichik Garamurad, Gedabey region of the Republic of Azerbaijan. After the attack of the Armenian armed forces on the sovereign territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1991, he voluntarily enlisted in the “Garadag Shahinleri” battalion, organized in the Aghdam region, and participated in battles to defend the Motherland.

In March 1992, in an unequal battle with the enemy, six members of the detachment in which N. Gasimov fought died. Having taken a position in the Albanian church in the village of Pirlyar, Khojaly region, N. Gasimov continued to fight alone for 5 days. He surrendered after the Armenians threatened him with shooting the Khojaly residents they had captured.

Witnesses to the capture of Natig Gasimov by Armenian militants were Russian and Italian journalists – Konstantin Smirnov and Enrico Sarzina. This was described in articles published in issues 14 and 15 of 1992 in the Russian magazine Ogonyok.

On June 25, 2024, by order of the President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, Natig Gasimov was awarded the title of National Hero (posthumously) for special services in protecting the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and personal courage shown during the performance of a combat mission.
