Friday (September 13) is the death anniversary of Anwar Hossain, the uncrowned Nawab of Bengal. He breathed his last on September 13, 2013 while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in the capital. He was buried in the capital’s Mirpur Intellectual Cemetery.

Anwar Hossain was born on November 6, 1931 in Sarulia village of Jamalpur district. In 1958, he started acting in films in Dhaka through the movie ‘Tomar Amar’. This legendary actor acted in more than five hundred films in his 52-year career. Anwar Hossain’s last movie as a hero is ‘Surya Sangram’. The movie was released in 1979. In 2010, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Film Awards.
