As we announced, the Compagnie du TransGuinéen (CTG) is currently organizing its second anniversary in Conakry, through a forum which brings together all the stakeholders of the gigantic Simandou project.
During these days (Monday and Tuesday) of intense work, several themes including GENESIS AND INNOVATION OF THE SIMANDOU PROJECT “Simandou: A new era in the development of mineral resources in Africa; DEVELOPMENT OF THE SIMANDOU ECONOMIC CORRIDOR “Beyond the ore: Creating a corridor of sustainable economic development; LOCAL CONTENT AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION “Maximizing the local benefits of the Simandou project: Towards a socio-economic transformation of Guinea” will be widely elucidated for the participants.
Panellist of the first panel, the Minister of Mines and Geology, Bouna Sylla spoke to the press at the end of the debates.
“This panel brought together representatives of industrial partners (Baowu, Chinalco, Winning Consortium, Rio Tinto) and the Guinean State represented by the Ministry of Mines and Geology to discuss the Simandou project and major innovations. One of the major innovations of this project is that it was the President of the Republic, General Mamadi Doumbouya, who brought industrial partners with different interests and agendas to tell them that they should come together to be able to develop the project. This is the only way to guarantee the strategic interests of the State. By bringing the partners together, it helps to minimize the taste for investment,” he explains.
Continuing, he gave ample information on the level of progress of the work. According to him, “today, the project has a construction level of 50% and the financing is complete. On July 17, there are several 2 billion dollars that were injected by the different companies responsible for carrying out the project. The major infrastructure of the project is 27 km of tunnel and the longest one that is that of Kindia is 11.8 km. And the tunnel of Soyah which is 2.6 km is already completed. The second tunnel that is that of Kaaba which is 4 km is also finalized, the interior construction remains. Then, you have the Mamou tunnel which is 8.8 km. The access road from Moribayah (Forécariah) to Beyla has been built since July 2022. The critical infrastructures will all be at a level of 70% completion by the end of 2024 (…) This anniversary, yes, because it is two years of success, of success thanks to the leadership of the Head of State who made it possible to bring this project to this level. It is a dream that has become reality because since July 17, the project is unconditional, it is irreversible. That is to say, we have reached a point of no return,” the minister said.
