A first in Blue and a victory against PSG. Jean-Clair Todibo will certainly remember this beginning of September. The new international, involved in Nice’s first goal this Friday evening, took stock of his week and delivered the keys which allowed his team to win (2-3) at the Parc des Princes.
What is the prevailing feeling after this victory?
JEAN-CLAIR TODIBO. Very happy. I think the team played the game it needed to play against a great Paris Saint-Germain team. We are obviously happy, because I think that very few teams will come and snatch three points from this PSG and even fewer from the Parc des Princes.
What do you think of this PSG version of Luis Enrique?
Honestly, I really liked it. I have been watching them since the start of the season and even in the preparation matches. They’re a super interesting team with the ball, even if we’re used to that with PSG, and from a defensive point of view, in relation to their pressing, I found them super interesting, because it’s very hard to find passes between their line. It’s a very, very high level team.
What was OGC Nice’s plan to upset this team?
The idea was to play behind their backs and ensure that Terem (Moffi) could be found. We know his qualities for keeping the ball and being dangerous in depth. The plan was also to prevent them as much as possible from getting the ball out of their camp, and we knew how to do it well but also take advantage of it, because that’s how you score the first goal.
We felt that you insisted more on depth in the second half. Did the coach give instructions to this effect at half-time?
No way. Between the players, we analyzed this first period, and when we are on the pitch, we see different things. We said to ourselves that there was something to play in depth, behind the backs of their central defenders, and we were able to do it quite well.
Do you feel like you’ve hit a big blow?
We will have to keep this humility that we have for the moment. It will be a big one if we do that. If we start to panic and feel prettier than we are, I think we’ll quickly outsmart ourselves, and that’s not the goal. We have to continue to take as many points as possible and we will see in the end what happens.
On the third goal scored by Terem Moffi, we see Mbappé attacking him. What happened and what did they say to each other?
It happened on the pitch, I don’t want to talk about it. This is their story together. Afterwards it wasn’t violent, there was nothing really mean in what they said to each other.
A word on Terem Moffi’s performance…
It was magnificent. This is what we expect of him. Honestly, I never doubted his qualities, I always thought he was a top player and that he would score his goals. He just had to unlock his counter this season. He did it against Strasbourg today (Friday), he let loose and he made two and it’s great.
You are coming out of a special week with your first in the French team and this victory here at the Parc des Princes. What conclusions do you draw from it?
It’s a very good week for me. I am very happy with this first in the French team. Afterwards, there was frustration with the result. We returned Tuesday evening, and I arrived in Paris on Wednesday morning. I had to take off immediately for Nice and prepare directly for this match against PSG. I spent very little time in the euphoria of the Blues match and I refocused on today’s match. There was a lot of fatigue in my legs and I had to manage my match as best as possible. I think I did it well.
