“Overcoming crises together” is the motto of this year’s 23rd National Lithuanian Libraries Week, which invites not only to look back and assess the great professional and creative potential of libraries to overcome various types of crisis situations. This slogan inspired us to look carefully, and most importantly to see, every library employee who was TOGETHER with his colleagues and the community, so that the library and the informational and cultural resources gathered in it were always available to everyone and as if within reach in the most diverse contact and remote ways, in all in the best of times and in the worst of times.
The motto – “Overcoming crises together” – is about libraries, but even more so – about people – librarians, so the library staff gathered on April 26th at the Justin Marcinkevičius Public Library in Prienė to celebrate National Lithuanian Libraries Week were first of all rewarded with a sensitive and meaningful literary and musical program. which was performed by actress Valda Bičkutė and bard, composer, songwriter and performer, former longtime member of the band “Skylė” Jonas Krivickas. After the high-spirited artistic program of a high professional level, everyone was awaited by a joyful “ceremony” – the best librarians of the year awards. in 2023 Such awards were held for the first time in the Prienai Justino Marcinkevičius public library. By agreement of the community, the Librarian of the Year was elected by secret ballot. All librarians were candidates for this title, and all library employees also voted for their colleagues. The election was interesting – when two candidates got the same number of votes, a second round of elections was even necessary. Methodist Dalia Bredelienė, Head of Children’s Literature Department Eglė Uleckienė, Librarian of Skriaudiusi Library Ramunė Celiešienė, Senior Librarian-bibliographer of the Information Department Ingrida Kazlauskienė became librarians of the year.
Alvydas Vaicekauskas, the mayor of the municipality of Prienai District, came to congratulate the librarians, who presented a thank you to the “Librarian of the Year 2023” nominee Dalia Bredeliene. Vice-mayor Jūratė Zailskienė congratulated and presented the municipality’s thanks to Egle Uleckiene. Head of the Culture and Tourism Department Rimantas Šiugždinis congratulated and presented the Municipality’s thanks to Ramuna Celiešienė and Ingrida Kazlauskiena. Cash prizes for the best librarians were established not only by the institution itself, but also by the trade union of the employees of the Prienai Justinas Marcinkevičius Public Library and the PJMVB branch of the Lithuanian Librarians’ Association.
Thanks to director Daiva Čepeliauskienė, not a single library employee was left without an award. The director found a sincere word of thanks for every employee – specialists, qualified workers, and service personnel, she was happy for the most visible, and sometimes completely invisible, only sensed in each employee’s character trait or specialty of professional activity, which, being unique, is very important both for the entire library community and for everyone walking TOGETHER.
