Another eight coronavirus infections have been recorded by the organizers of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, according to the daily report. An athlete who is not staying at the Olympic Village is among those who tested positive, they explained. The numbers bring the total of positive tests among those related to the Olympics to 75 from 1 July. According to the organizers, an official from the athletes’ village tested positive and had 12 close contacts.
Yesterday the Czech team announced that after confirming the coronavirus infection in beach volleyball player Ondrej Perusic, coach Simon Nausch also tested positive. In addition to the 75 cases recorded by the organizers of the Olympics, four other positive tests were recorded by the Japanese prefectures. Regional authorities in Japan are not obliged to report cases when they are specifically related to the Games. The Tokyo Olympic Games will officially open on Friday.
