This impressive creation stands at a towering 4.5 meters (14.8 feet) tall and is set to make waves in the technology world.
ARCHAX, named after the archaeopteryx, an avian dinosaur, boasts a cockpit equipped with monitors that display real-time images from external cameras. This unique feature allows the pilot to control the robot’s arms and hands using joysticks inside the torso. Such innovation marries the worlds of animation, gaming, robots, and automobiles seamlessly.
The 3.5-ton robot will make its debut at the Japan Mobility Show later this month and offers two modes of operation. “Robot mode” allows ARCHAX to stand upright, while the “vehicle mode” enables it to travel at a speed of up to 10 km (6 miles) per hour. Apart from its impressive appearance, the robot’s versatility holds great potential for various industries.
Ryo Yoshida, the 25-year-old CEO of Tsubame Industries, expressed his vision for ARCHAX, stating, “Japan is very good at animation, games, robots, and automobiles, so I thought it would be great if I could create a product that compressed all these elements into one.” Yoshida aims to embody the spirit of Japan through this iconic creation.
Currently, Tsubame Industries plans to build and sell five of these remarkable robots to enthusiasts. However, Yoshida envisions a future where ARCHAX can also be utilized for disaster relief operations or in the space industry. This ambition highlights the company’s commitment to applying technological advancements for the benefit of society.
Yoshida’s passion for manufacturing dates back to his formative years when he learned the art of welding at his grandfather’s ironworks. Building upon his expertise, he went on to establish a company specializing in myoelectric prosthetic hands. Yoshida’s desire to contribute to Japan’s competitive edge in manufacturing remains a driving force behind his endeavors.
