The 125th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) continues in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina.
September 7 was decisive. Elected in 2020 the capital of the Summer Olympics. The contenders were Madrid (Spain), Tokyo (Japan) and Istanbul (Turkey).
Tokyo won by a clear margin (60 votes).
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made a speech of thanks. He said that the hosting of the Games would contribute to the progress of his country’s economy. The state program was implemented, thanks to which the radiation of the damaged nuclear power plant “Fukushima-1” was completely eliminated. Moreover, now Japan is solving the issue of creating other energy carriers. As the Prime Minister emphasized at the end of his speech, the world sports fans will be delighted with the Olympic Games to be held in the Land of the Rising Sun. This is reported by the press department of the Ukrainian National Olympic Committee.
IOC President Jacques Rogge also expressed his sympathy for Tokyo’s selection.
Until now, three more Olympic Games have been held in Japan. in Tokyo (1964), Sapporo (1972) and Nagano (1998).
By the way, Tokyo is the only Asian city that becomes the Olympic capital for the second time.
