Thiruvananthapuram: Witnesses have identified Udayan and Umesh, accused in the murder of a foreign woman, in court. Sooraj and Lalu, three and four witnesses in the case, identified the accused. The trial is being held in the Thiruvananthapuram First Adv: Sessions Court.

According to Sooraj, ‘I smelled the stench when I was rowing the boat to borrow money from a friend as I did not have money to go to the wedding. Baskets were placed in the water to raise fish nearby. When he looked up at the basket, he saw that the fish might stink.

Because of the haste to go to the wedding, he quickly saw the defendants on the way out of there. He told them that the stench was coming from the forest. He said he would go there but the accused were not ready. Defendants retorted, saying there would be waterlogging. He was later injured in an accident. The girl went missing and was later killed. Although the two accused were friends, they told the police that what they saw was due to humanitarian considerations.

Fisherman Lalu said his friend told him that the woman’s body was lying in the forest. The two suspects were fishing in the vicinity of the place mentioned by the friend. He did not tell anyone where the body lay. Lalu said that after the police found the body, he told his friends about it while playing the lottery.
