Tolerance centers are ‘red zones’

The ‘Polytechnic’ Circuit is one of the four recognized ‘Hot Spots’ in the province of Chimborazo, that is, the tolerance centers are ‘red zones’.

Important. To improve the effectiveness of police work, information on crime levels, violence, assassination attempts and the ECU-911 incivities base is collected and loaded into a data registry. And this information is used to generate a ‘Hot Spot’, a place with the highest incidence of criminal acts. In this way, the National Police can direct its efforts and resources towards the sectors that require more attention, it is known.

In Chimborazo, four ‘Hot Spots’ have been identified, and one of them is the ‘Polytechnic’ Circuit, especially in the tolerance zone. Thus, according to Danilo Claudio, Police lieutenant and head of the Information Analysis Department of the ‘Chimborazo’ Subzone, it is relevant to consider that this sector is home to a large number of people who do not belong to the province, since they are carrying out their studies, which translates into the presence of various places of entertainment, such as liquor stores and night clubs in that area.

So far this year, the ‘Politécnica’ Circuit has registered events in some of the seven indicators of the integral command control. There have been 96 reported robberies to people, 28 cases of theft of vehicle accessories and auto parts, 31 home robberies, 12 cases of robbery to economic units and 17 events of car theft. However, it is important to note that so far no events related to violence have been recorded at the second level.

Regarding the increase in crime in the sector compared to the previous year, Lieutenant Claudio explained that this is due to the fact that in the same period last year they were still in confinement due to the covid-19 pandemic, with restrictions of mobility. In contrast, this year all people have the freedom to move around and the institutions have resumed face-to-face classes, which has generated a greater flow of people and activity in the area, making it possible to increase criminal events. Community Assemblies are being developed in the sector, with the intervention of the National Police and other institutions.
