Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare forced the cancellation of a first-team training session on Monday after refusing to leave the pitch. The 25-year-old is currently in a transfer standoff with the club, which has rejected his move to Fiorentina while attempting to secure a higher fee from Trabzonspor.

The incident at the Compton Park training ground occurred after manager Cesar Peixoto attempted to move the forward away from the main squad. According to reports, Arokodare sat down on the pitch and demanded the club let him move to Fiorentina, leading to the full cancellation of the day’s session. The disruption marks a significant escalation in the tensions between the player and the club, which had previously omitted him from a pre-season training trip to Portugal for reasons that aren’t yet fully clear.

The club responded to the disruption by enforcing extra security at the facility on Tuesday to ensure the striker did not return to the training ground. BBC Sport reported that Arokodare will not feature in the club’s upcoming friendly match against Maidenhead United as the management continues to navigate his future.
Transfer Deadlock and Club Strategy
The conflict centers on a disagreement over Arokodare’s next destination. While the club has accepted an offer from Turkish side Trabzonspor, the player is pushing for a move to Serie A club Fiorentina. Reports in Turkey indicated that interest from Fiorentina had initially fizzled out, leaving Trabzonspor in pole position, yet Arokodare reportedly rejected the move after Wolves accepted the bid. Genoa and Pisa, also relegated from Italy’s top flight last season, have been linked with the striker.
The impasse has left the striker in limbo after a disappointing debut season at Molineux where he scored three goals in 33 matches following a transfer from Genk. While some reports note the deal was worth £23.4 million, other sources cite the transfer fee at £24m. Arokodare had joined Genk from Latvian club Valmiera in 2023 after spells on loan at Cologne and Amiens, before joining Wolves as a freshly minted Nigerian international last summer.
This is not the first time Arokodare has faced disciplinary scrutiny at the club. He was previously disciplined in April following a confrontation with young forward Mateus Mane. With the club recently relegated from the Premier League after finishing bottom of the table, manager Cesar Peixoto—who only took the helm last month in a surprise move replacing Rob Edwards—is now tasked with managing a squad in flux while attempting to secure a return to the top flight at the first attempt.
