Will the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games be Hollywood-worthy? Actor Tom Cruise is apparently preparing something special.
Hollywood star Tom Cruise will apparently be part of the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. According to several US media reports, the “Mission: Impossible” actor is set to perform an “epic” stunt during the ceremony. According to the gossip portal “TMZ”, Cruise has been training for months for a parachute jump with which he will officially mark the handover of the games to the next host city: the Summer Games will take place in Los Angeles in 2028.
Cruise is said to first swing from the roof of the Stade de France onto the stadium’s playing field, with the Olympic flag in tow. The TV broadcast of the Olympic closing ceremony will then show a two-minute, pre-recorded clip in which Cruise takes the flag from France to Los Angeles by plane. There he is said to jump out of the plane and land with the flag on the famous Hollywood sign in the mountains above LA.
TMZ shared several photos from the filming, which is said to have taken place in March 2024. According to the site, several Olympic athletes can also be seen in the clip helping Cruise transport the flag from Paris to LA.
The idea for the stunt is said to have come from the actor himself and was presented to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) by him. Tom Cruise is a big fan of the Olympic Games and was one of the bearers of the Olympic torch before the 2004 Games in Athens. He will be at the Games again this year: on July 26th he attended the opening ceremony and since then he has been in the audience at several competitions, including gymnastics and swimming.
The report about Tom Cruise’s stunt has not yet been officially confirmed. The closing ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Paris will take place on August 11th. In Germany, the ceremony will be broadcast live on ZDF and Eurosport.
