Presenter Tom Egbers will not be working for NOS Sport in the coming months after allegations of inappropriate behavior in the workplace. That will be announced by his employer on Friday.

The journalist has decided that ‘in good consultation’ with the management, according to the NOS. In this way, Egbers wants to give space to answer questions that have recently arisen after the article by de Volkskrant about misconduct at the editorial office of NOS Sport.

Egbers was discredited last week because of the article. He is said to have intimidated and bullied a female colleague with whom he had had an affair for a while. This story was confirmed to the newspaper by several contributors. We spoke with 32 (former) employees. In recent months, NOS itself has received a small hundred reports of transgressive behavior and the hard culture in the workplace.

Janke Dekker, Egbers’ wife and former chairman of the Mores foundation, confirmed the affair to this site. According to her, the sports presenter ended the relationship and informed the management at the NOS. “They then said: ‘We consider this a private matter. You are two grown people. You should solve that yourself.’” Dekker accuses the woman of stalking behavior.

The editors-in-chief of NOS Sport resigned after publication of the Volkskrantpiece back. On Wednesday, the NOS announced that there will also be an investigation at NOS News and NOS Events.

Janke Dekker has since stepped down as chairman of the Mores Foundation. The reporting center for undesirable behavior in the cultural and creative sector came under discussion because of its role. In the meantime, State Secretary Gunay Uslu (Media) has urgently requested advice on the position of the hotline. According to Uslu, the fact that the position of ‘members of the board’ has come under discussion could ‘dissuade people from reporting because it raises questions about the confidential treatment of reports, which is of course highly undesirable.’
