Tomas Machac Beats Kyrian Jacquet in Paris Masters Opener

Tomas Machac will face Arthur Fils in the second round of the Rolex Paris Masters this Wednesday. Machac defeated Kyrian Jacquet 7-6(7), 6-1 on November 2, 2026. The match at the Plenitude Arena lasted one hour and 22 minutes. This victory marks the first time the Czech player has advanced past the opening round of this tournament, following previous losses to Arthur Rinderknech and Flavio Cobolli.

Machac Wins Tight Opening Set

Jacquet held two set points on the serve of the 71st-ranked Machac before the tie-break. The invitee to the main draw eventually lost the tie-break 9-7. Machac saved two set points, including one on his own serve, to take the frame. This first set determined the direction of the match.

The intensity of the tie-break appeared to drain the 25-year-old Frenchman. Jacquet had recently broken into the top 100 this autumn. He fired eleven aces during the match.

Machac converted two of his three total break opportunities to control the court. Jacquet failed to capitalize on any of his two break-point chances. The Czech player closed out the match with an ace.

Fils Aims for Tsonga’s Record

Arthur Fils, the tournament’s 6th seed, received an exemption from the first round. He has two goals for this home tournament. He wants to succeed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the last French winner in 2008. He also seeks to validate his qualification for the season-ending Masters in Turin, scheduled for November 15-22, 2026.

Fils has recorded five quarter-final appearances in Masters 1000 events this season. He earned his first title in this category at Cincinnati.

Machac earned his place in the main draw through the qualifying rounds. He defeated Martin Landaluce and Sebastian Baez to get there. His recent matches included three-set losses to Karen Khachanov at Almaty and Alex De Minaur at Vienna.

The Wednesday Matchup

Wednesday will mark the second time these two players have faced each other. They last met on grass at Halle during the 2024 season. Fils won that encounter.

Fils has publicly stated he feels to be in good shape. His recent results include a third round in Shanghai and a semi-final in Brussels. He faces the pressure of a home crowd to secure a spot among the top eight players in the world for Turin.

The winner of this match moves closer to the year-end top eight rankings.
