Tomato prices continue to peak in Tamil Nadu. In Chennai, it was selling at Rs 120 per kg on Tuesday.
Due to the heavy rains across Tamil Nadu, the supply of tomatoes to the markets decreased and its prices increased sharply. According to traders, the reason for the high price of tomatoes is due to the rotting of tomatoes in the fields and the low import of tomatoes from neighboring states including Andhra Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
