The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has refuted recent social media allegations that tomatoes sold in markets were sprayed with “Ether” to artificially hasten ripening and improve color. The ministry asserts the claims are unfounded and attributes the appearance of white tissue inside tomatoes to natural environmental and nutritional factors.

The controversy began following the circulation of a video clip on social media platforms raising concerns about the safety and quality of locally-grown tomatoes. In response, the ministry issued a statement clarifying the causes of internal discoloration, emphasizing that consumer health is not at risk.
