JAKARTA – Pair of candidates for president and vice president (capres-cawapres), Ganjar Pranowo – Mahfud MD will make a pilgrimage to the grave of the First President and Proclaimer of Indonesian Independence, Soekarno in Blitar, East Java, Friday (3/11/2023) tomorrow. Both of them will be present along with the General Chairperson of the DPP Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri.
The news of this activity was confirmed by the Secretary General (Sekjen) of the PDIP DPP Hasto Kristiyanto during a visit to the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) in Jakarta, Thursday (2/11/2023).
“Tomorrow Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri and her family, and also Mr. Ganjar, Prof. Mahfud MD, will make a pilgrimage to Bung Karno’s grave in Blitar,” said Hasto.
Hasto explained that this pilgrimage is a tradition that has been established. Moreover, after being announced as presidential and vice presidential candidates, Ganjar-Mahfud received widespread support from the public.
Both of them, he said, were considered leaders who offered all power to the nation and state, not individuals.
On the other hand, Hasto said that the plan to go to Bung Karno’s grave was as a tribute and as a reminder.
“This is not only a tribute to Mr. Proclaimer, the Father of the Indonesian Nation, but also to start everything like Bung Karno. All his life for the nation and state. All his life for national unity. All his life for dedication of life driven by ideals – the ideals, ideas, thoughts of the people,” he said.
