Traffic puts all the meat on the grill for this weekend, the last of the special devices for the return operation. 780 fixed speed control radars will be operational -92 of them section-; 545 mobile radars, which can be carried on Civil Guard vehicles.

In addition, there will be 15 camouflaged vans to control the use of mobile phones and seat belts, as well as 245 cameras for the same purpose. Traffic does not want to leave anything to chance and will also bring out, as usual, Pegasus helicopters, drones and unmarked cars and motorcycles to monitor behavior on the road.

All to minimize the risks of the last stretch of the return operation, in which it is estimated that 6,820,000 long-distance journeys will take place from the coastal tourist and rest areas to the large urban centers.

Traffic also foresees the departure of those workers who prefer September to go on vacation, especially over the weekend.

Departures, per day

The first bulk of the flow will be concentrated on Thursday the 31st, especially between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., and there will be “retentions in the main communication axes that channel movement from the coast to the big cities.”

Something similar will happen, but in both directions, on Friday, September 1, scheduled between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The following day, the bulk of the flow will occur on Saturday morning, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Saturday will be marked by intense traffic because short weekend trips will be added to those back to the city and those going on vacation. That same day in the afternoon there will also be a peak, caused by those who want to avoid the traffic jams on Sunday.

Finally, Sunday 3 will be the last day of return both for vacationers and for those who went away for the weekend, so between 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. the greatest traffic on the device is expected, with traffic problems and traffic jams on the main road axes, as well as at border crossings.

If possible, Traffic recommends avoiding those especially problematic hours and planning trips in advance. Leaving early –or later, if Monday the 4th allows it– to avoid traffic jams makes the return much more pleasant.

In addition, the DGT has established some auxiliary measures, such as the design of alternative routes to avoid the most congested areas; the limitation of road works and sporting events that occupy the road (such as La Vuelta Ciclista) or truck traffic in certain sections.
