(ANSA) – TRIESTE, OCTOBER 14 – Nevio was a good, determined and generous person, creative in planning initiatives to promote health and the culture of giving and tireless in supporting at an institutional level the need for solutions to the concrete needs of transplant patients. It is the memory that Gianfranco Sinagra, cardiologist and friend, who treated him in Trieste in the first phase of the disease, expressed of the late Nevio Toneatto, entrepreneur, organizer of many activities, president of the Italian Cardiotransplant Association.
Nevio Toneatto, “a life for the culture of giving”, has always encouraged commitment to staying healthy with healthy lifestyles and physical and sporting activity. In 2018 he brought the European championships for heart and lung transplant recipients to Lignano, an Olympics to reaffirm the full conquest of life.
“We make his invitation for a culture of life-promoting donation our own. We are grateful to all the doctors who treated him and we affectionately embrace Francesca who, in remembering him with infinite love, said ‘my hero with three hearts, the one by birth and those donated: all wonderful'”, hopes Sinagra.
Toneatto had experienced a long phase of advanced treatment at the “UD-Livi-Vendramin Heart Transplant Center, after having been in Trieste. Years ago he wrote: “At the age of 33, a banal flu indelibly affected my life. My heart, due to an aggressive virus, swelled and began to be inefficient”. This was followed by 12 years of treatment which allowed him to “live with a decompensation that gradually became more important” until he made a heart transplant indispensable which began “a 10-month ordeal” of waiting with the “last three being an infinite torment, attached to a machine that allowed me to survive. After the transplant, more than 16 years have passed”. Finally, he invited “all young and old” to go to the Municipality to renew their Identity Card by answering “YES to the question of becoming a donor”.
