DISAPPEARANCE – The singer, who died at the age of 96, had won 19 Grammy Awards during his career during which he recorded no less than 70 albums. Since 2016, he suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
Defying all predictions that an artist is at the height of his popularity at a young age, Tony Bennett had signed his greatest success at the age of 85, becoming number one in sales with his album Duets II in 2012. “It’s an incredible and marvelous gift, he told us then. You’re not supposed to be number one in sales at my age.Very popular in the United States, this great singer of jazz had, for the occasion, regained the favor of the international public. He had even performed on the stage of the Olympia in Paris, a city he had not visited for a quarter of a century.
Born Anthony Dominick Benedetto in a family of Italian immigrants in 1926 in New York, he died on July 21, 2023 in this same city. He was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, which forced him to interrupt his career at the end of 2021, at the venerable age of 95.
