Get ready for a reunion! Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, two of the most beloved characters from the iconic “NCIS” universe, are back in their own spin-off series, “NCIS: Tony & Ziva.” The show kicks off on Paramount+ on September 4th with its first three episodes. Following that, a new installment will drop every Thursday until October 23rd.
A Familiar Duo Takes Center Stage
This new series marks the return of Michael Weatherly as DiNozzo and Cote de Pablo as David, making it the seventh installment in the sprawling “NCIS” franchise. While previous spin-offs have explored new locations like Hawaii and Sydney, “Tony & Ziva” shines a spotlight directly on this fan-favorite pair, rather than introducing a fresh team of agents.
De Pablo originally departed “NCIS” in 2013, followed by Weatherly three years later. The on-screen chemistry between DiNozzo and David was a cornerstone of the original series, and their real-life friendship has endured. During the pandemic, they even collaborated on a podcast dissecting past “NCIS” episodes. Now, they’re back together on screen in “Tony & Ziva.”
“We always wanted to work together again,” de Pablo shared during the Monte-Carlo TV Festival. “Michael was busy with ‘Bull,’ and then COVID happened. But the stars finally aligned for us to film this.”
Where Did We Leave Them?
Fans last saw Ziva seemingly die on a mission, a fate that devastated Tony. However, it was later revealed that Ziva had faked her death to protect her loved ones, including her and Tony’s young daughter. Tony then left his life at the agency in Quantico, Virginia, to reunite with Ziva and their child, played by young English actress Isla Gie.
Filmed across Budapest, Paris, and the Canary Islands, “Tony & Ziva” promises a European adventure packed with “NCIS” adrenaline. It also introduces a significant family element, adding a new layer to the show’s established formula. “Tony and Ziva are different now,” Weatherly explained. “Their daughter influences every decision, making them more mature and changing their dynamic.”
The series also adopts a different filming rhythm. “On ‘NCIS,’ we shot at a rapid pace,” de Pablo noted. “This new series allowed for more manageable times; it feels like a 10-hour movie.” She also quipped about her long-standing friendship with Weatherly: “We’ve been friends for 20 years, which is rare in entertainment. The secret? We live far apart!”
