– Too poor visibility – Dagsavisen

by time news

Strong winds and snowy weather caused problems for the organizers of the race. The storm gradually picked up, and eventually the organizers had to call it quits.

– The visibility is too poor. Unfortunately, there will be no more skiing. According to Finse, the runners do not see from point to point Hallingdølen.

The finish line is at Ustaoset.

Runners who had not made it onto the course were shown back to the train carriages for the return to Ustaoset.

“All participants who have arrived at drink station 1, Lengjedalen will be led back to Finse. The rest is led down to Ustaoset”, writes press manager Ola Uthus in an update to NTB.

Got help

At Finse, the organizers had stopped and held back three trains to transport the participants back. The participants who were out in the track were guided down the mountain by scooter patrol and tracked vehicles.

“Skarverennen has a total of around 70 scooters, 2 tracked vehicles, 5 heated tents, 115 Red Cross and health personnel in the mountains, at the same time with the support of the police,” the organizer states.

The start had not yet started for the elite classes when the decision to stop the event was made.

The police write on X that they have assisted in retrieving three runners who had ended up off the trail.

“The three came off the ski tracks in thick fog. This in connection with the Skarverennet. They have been taken care of by the health department and are in good condition,” the update says.

Anniversary

It is the 50th time that the traditional race has been organized. The weather gods have also caused major problems for the organizers in the past.

A number of high-profile cross-country skiers took part in Saturday’s race. Therese Johaug was one of them. Johaug has won the race a total of 11 times previously.

In the men’s class, the start list consisted of strong names such as Harald Østberg Amundsen, Pål Golberg, Simen Hegstad Krüger and Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget. They therefore had to look far before embarking on the 37 kilometers from Finse to Ustaoset.

In total, around 10,000 runners were registered for the race.
