Tornadoes in Jefferson County, Alabama: NWS Confirms Two Tracks with EF1 Ratings

DEADLY TORNADOES HIT JEFFERSON COUNTY, ALABAMA

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has confirmed the presence of tornadoes in Jefferson County early Sunday morning. After a survey on Sunday, the NWS stated that two short-lived tornado tracks were identified in the area. The first tornado was confirmed to be just north of Lakeshore Parkway, stretching from the general area of Wildwood to Samford University, with a rating of EF1 and reaching wind speeds of 100mph. The second track was identified from Brookwood Mall into Mountain Brook and Cahaba Heights, also with a rating of EF1 and reaching 90mph.

The severe weather also brought high wind gusts reaching 60 mph, lightning, and hail, resulting in damages reported across the area. Cleanup efforts were underway in the aftermath of the storm, and details on the path, width, and distance of the tornadoes are still being determined.

In addition, the NWS has planned additional surveys for Lee and Barbour counties on Monday. As the affected areas continue to assess and recover from the impact of the tornadoes, residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
