Tornadoes Cause Damage in Western Florida Overnight

Tornadoes were reported in western Florida overnight as severe storms rolled through the state. The National Weather Service issued warnings as a low-pressure system approached, bringing the potential for severe weather.

The path of destruction began near Clearwater Beach and Crystal River, where possible tornadoes caused damage during the early-morning hours of Thursday. The Clearwater Beach Police Department shared photos on their Facebook page, showing debris scattered in the streets and a vehicle with a pierced windshield. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the storm in Clearwater.

Crystal River also experienced roof damage and downed power lines due to the possible tornado. The extent of the damage led Citrus County to announce the closure of its schools on Thursday.

As the morning progressed, another possible tornado struck Palm Coast, located north of Daytona Beach in Flagler County. A social media post revealed an overturned car, but local police confirmed that no injuries had been reported.

The threat of severe weather is not over yet, as northern and central parts of Florida could still experience more storms during the first half of Thursday. The possibility of isolated tornadoes and damaging wind gusts remains a concern.

Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest radar and heed any watches and warnings issued by the authorities. It is crucial to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions in the face of severe weather.
