Toronto CEO and Family Shot During Bridle Path Home Invasion

Three masked intruders shot a Toronto real estate executive and his two adult daughters during a violent early-morning home invasion on Hyde Park Circle. The attack in the city’s affluent Bridle Path neighborhood left two victims with life-altering injuries as police launched a manhunt for the suspects.

David Morton, 75, chief executive of the MAC Group, and his family were inside their gated property at approximately 3:45 a.m. on October 29. According to Toronto police, the three suspects forced their way into the residence through a locked rear door while armed with handguns and a hammer. A struggle erupted when the family attempted to fight off the intruders.

During the confrontation, the gunmen fired their weapons multiple times. Mr. Morton and his two daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, suffered gunshot wounds. Meanwhile, Doriana Zohil-Morton, the executive’s wife and company president, was struck with a hammer. Two of the family members sustained life-altering injuries, while the others received treatment for non-life-threatening wounds. Mr. Morton was shot in the leg along with one of his daughters, while the other daughter sustained a gunshot wound under her arm.

Mr. Morton released a statement expressing the profound trauma left by the violent intrusion at their estate, which is valued at $2.1 million and features a tennis court, pool, and private gardens.

It is difficult to put into words the trauma of experiencing something so horrific in the one place where everyone should feel safest: their own home.

No family should ever have to experience this. People should be able to sleep peacefully in their homes without fear of armed individuals breaking in and threatening their lives.

Mrs. Zohil-Morton was the only family member not shot during the raid, and she has since been released from the hospital. The remaining three victims stayed hospitalized for ongoing medical treatment.
