The Toronto International Film Festival has transformed the city into an international cinema hub, showcasing high-profile features and shorts that arrived with potential awards buzz. Among the notable screenings, Annie Murphy stars as a 30-something Emma navigating a career crossroads and a desire to become a mom in All That She Wants
, co-starring Cooper Raiff with Christine Baranski, Bill Irwin, and Zosia Mamet. The film currently lacks a distributor.
Festival Screenings and Awards Contenders in Toronto
Writer-director Lauren Miller Rogen explores the existential choice of parenting in Babies
, starring Anna Kendrick and Seth Rogen alongside Issa Rae, Zach Cherry, Kate Berlant, and David Strathairn. That project already secured a distributor ahead of a likely release in 2027.
Meanwhile, international and literary adaptations bring distinct flavors to the slate. Twin brothers Arie and Chuko Esiri present a luminous adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway titled Clarissa
, transporting the narrative to modern-day Lagos, Nigeria, with Sophie Okonedo anchoring a cast that includes India Amarteifio, David Oyelowo, and Ayo Edebiri. The film opens in theaters on December 11.
Sharing that December 11 theatrical release date is Jesse Eisenberg’s The Debut
, a dark surrealist comedy about late-in-life self-discovery starring Julianne Moore as a suburban housewife cast in a community theater production directed by Paul Giamatti’s character. Festival audiences also embraced Sandra Wollner’s Everytime
, which explores grief following a teenager’s fatal accident and stars Birgit Minichmayr, Lotte Shirin Keiling, and Tristán López.
Hospitality, Luxury Dining, and Celebrity Socials in Yorkville
Away from the screening rooms, the city’s hospitality sector operates at full throttle. Four Seasons Hotel Toronto returned as an official hospitality partner for the 51st edition, serving as a social headquarters in Yorkville for filmmakers, industry leaders, and tastemakers.

The hotel’s calendar kicked off on September 8 with the annual TIFF Kick Off event at d|bar, accompanied by a photo exhibition in the lobby celebrating TIFF’s cinematic legacy. On September 12, the property hosted The Road to the 84th Golden Globes for its third year at the hotel.

Culinary programming runs from September 8 to September 20. At d|bar, the crown jewel of the beverage menu is the Final Cut XO Sazerac priced at $1,000, a tableside cocktail experience offered once per evening that includes chauffeured transportation within two kilometers in the hotel’s Rolls-Royce house car. Executive Chef William Kresky at Café Boulud curated a five-course tasting menu featuring a dedicated caviar course and Japanese A5 Wagyu for $225 per person. Le Café introduced a Popcorn Iced Latte and Maple-Salted Popcorn Cookie, while the in-room dining department offers a $250 movie-night package featuring tuna tacos, truffle fries, and Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut Champagne.
Digital Creators and Studio Showcases Expand TIFF’s Reach
Digital platforms play an expanded role during the 11-day run starting September 10. TikTok returned to the Toronto Film Festival as the official platform partner and presenting partner for the Special Presentations sidebar, following a prior sponsorship cancellation and subsequent regulatory settlement in Ottawa involving parent company ByteDance.
TikTok brought 30 #FilmTok creators to the ground in Toronto, including Becca Rhodes, Julie Nolke, Aïcha Bastien-N’Diaye, and Nicky Reardon, to provide behind-the-scenes access. As part of TIFF: The Market, the platform hosted an informal conversation featuring Trash Mountain
actor Zooey Deschanel and co-star and writer Caleb Hearon. TikTok also hosted post-premiere Q&As for Niki Byrne’s The Julia Set
starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, Michael Dowse’s The Stunt Driver
starring Jay Baruchel, and Rachel Morrison’s Love of Your Life
starring Margaret Qualley.
Balancing Cultural Prestige Against an Uncertain Awards Landscape
The convergence of high-end hospitality, digital creator activations, and international features underscores Toronto’s enduring commercial pull.
