The Road Conservation Executive Unit —COVIAL— reported on the Total closure of the CA-1 Oriente route ―known as the Road to El Salvador―, which will take place during the first weekend of september. This closure will take place as part of the rehabilitation works that are being carried out in the kilometer 11.5 of said route.
According to the statement issued on September 3 and disseminated through social media, the closure is due to the installation of concrete beams in the area under rehabilitation. These works require the use of heavy machinery and cranes, which makes it essential to completely stop traffic.
The Municipal Traffic Police (PMT) of Santa Catarina Pinula and personnel from the General Directorate of Road Protection and Safety (PROVIAL) will provide their support in coordinating the transfer of the necessary machinery, as well as in the implementation of the closures at key points of the affected section.
COVIAL called on transport associations and regular users of this highway to plan their trips in advance. It is recommended to use alternative routes or, failing that, to reschedule trips that may be affected by this temporary closure. In addition, drivers are asked to follow the instructions of traffic officers on site.
Closing Hours and Days
The total closure of the CA-1 Oriente route will begin on Saturday, September 7 at 10:00 pm and will last until Monday, September 9 at 4:00 am. During this period, vehicular traffic will be completely restricted. Once the work is completed and the established deadline has been met, the road will be open to normal traffic from early next Monday morning.
Construction of bridges at km 11.5
The works at kilometer 11.5 of the CA-1 Oriente are focused on the construction of two bridges, which are part of a structural solution to the damage suffered in the area. In 2022, the area was affected by cracks associated with the collapse of a water collector due to soil saturation, caused by the rains of the season. The damage to the road made it necessary to implement temporary measures to maintain vehicular flow while permanent repairs were planned and executed.
During the rehabilitation process, two temporary lanes were created to maintain the flow of vehicles while the bridge construction work is carried out.
