For the 3rd time, the Generation 2000 Humorous Group organized a humor training session for detainees at the Ouagadougou House of Arrest and Correction (MACO). The restitution of the said training took place this Friday, June 16, 2023 in Ouagadougou. According to the promoter of the event Neya Babou Michel, one of the members of the comedy group, this activity aims to bring comfort to the prisoners and train future artists among them.
After the first two editions and strongly convinced of the positive impact of “Sourire d’espoir”, Miche Neya alias Michou of the comedy group Génération 2000 is back with the 3rd act of the training session in humorous writing. For the 2023 edition, more than forty inmates registered at the start, but in the end, only 3 completed it.
The promoter said he was satisfied with this edition. According to his words, act 3 of “smile of hope” is a success. “The objective is to allow a perfect social reintegration of prisoners. We noticed that the humor started to take off. Also, we want to give inmates the chance to embrace this profession. This 3rd edition is a total satisfaction”, suggested Michel Neya.

According to him, since the 1st edition, the event has undergone a significant evolution and reasons for satisfaction are visible. “Among the artists who have been invited for this edition, there are former prisoners who have benefited from a smile of hope. This shows the importance of this training. It’s also an opportunity for us to spot new talent.” he said.
On the side of the first officials of the Ouagadougou remand center, “Smile of Hope” is visibly well received. The director of the MACO, the Inspector of GSP, Frédéric Ouédraogo, underlined that this activity is beneficial for the environment. “We positively appreciate this initiative. This is the 3rd edition, so you can see that we trust the Génération 2000 group”, he launched.
It is the same story given by the Judge of Application of Sentences Lassané Guelbéogo. He also added that such initiatives should be supported. “It allows prisoners to breathe. It is also a noble training (…) when you look at the services that are done, you see that there is quality”, he hammered to conclude.
