NIJMEGEN – On February 4 it is World Cancer Day, worldwide attention is paid to the impact of cancer. Everyone has to deal with cancer in his or her life, as a patient or as a loved one. The disease changes the patient’s life and affects the lives of partners, children or friends.
In Nijmegen, people affected by cancer sing together in an enthusiastic choir. “You have been or have been diagnosed with cancer yourself. Your loved one is (or has been) seriously ill. It’s nice not having to explain anything to anyone. Yet we hardly talk about being sick. What connects the choir members above all is singing together. Singing has a healing effect, gives nice energy and helps to process a difficult time”, says Zingen voor je Leven Nijmegen.
“You don’t have to have singing experience for that singing, you don’t have to sing beautifully or do an audition. Anyone affected by cancer is welcome. The joy of singing is paramount. We sing songs from different cultures, beautiful songs that touch you or that make you happy. And if someone has a bad result or a difficult day, we sing for each other. A choir in which we sing for our lives.”
The choir has an open rehearsal on Thursday 9 February. Do you belong to the target group, be welcome at 10.00 am in community center ‘t Hert to sing along for a morning without obligation. Every two weeks they rehearse on Thursday mornings from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in ‘t Hert, amenity center at Thijmstraat 40 in Nijmegen.
