LOUDENVIELLE, France, July 18 – The Pyrenees stage 13 of the Tour de France is set to be a decisive test for the yellow jersey, following Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar’s dominant performance and reclamation of the lead. This mountain time trial will significantly shape the race’s outcome.
For Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates XRG), this stage presents a golden opportunity to solidify his grip on the 2025 Tour de France title, even with challenging stages still ahead in the Pyrenees and the Alps.
Pogacar Extends Lead After Hautacam Climb
Pogacar made a significant move on the Hautacam ascent, not only reclaiming the yellow jersey from Ireland’s Ben Healy (EF Education-Easypost) but also widening the gap on his closest rivals. Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) now trails by three minutes and 31 seconds. Belgian rider Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick-Step) is further behind at 4 minutes and 45 seconds.
Vingegaard’s Challenge Amidst Doubts
Despite the considerable time deficit, Vingegaard’s team, Visma, remains optimistic about his potential for a comeback. However, the 2022 and 2023 French classic champion’s current form suggests a repeat of his past victories may be a long shot.
The afternoon’s proceedings at Peyragudes, featuring the crucial time trial, will offer a clearer picture. A total of 171 cyclists are expected to compete, a reduction from the 184 who started the race on July 5 in Lille.
