The Domancy coast entered the history of French cycling 43 years ago during the 1980 Road World Championships in Sallanches. That year, Bernard Hinault won the only rainbow jersey of his career by winning in wear on this Domancy hill, which the peloton has taken a dozen times. And it will also be in the spotlight for the 2027 World Championships which will take place in Annecy.

“It’s a time in the middle of the mountains but also a time for mountaineers. Over 22.4 km, there will be a drop of 600 m. Which is quite compact. But it will also give a concentrate of difficulties. We will start with a first hill which bears the pretty name of the Côte de la Cascade de Coeur. On the road book, it does not seem very difficult but it will annoy the team technicians in the choice of bike. »
“Should we leave with a time trial bike, even if it means having difficulty on the first climb? Or should we favor a traditional bike. I think that the brains will widen a lot within the teams in order to opt for the best possible strategy. After the Cascade de Coeur, we will have a long descent then a little flat before attacking the famous Domancy hill which saw Bernard Hinault’s famous victory at the 1980 World Championships. It is a 2 km climb with an average slope of 9% before a final climb to Combloux. »
