The Provincial Council promotes the Joan Oró route with 7 stops in Lleida to discover the origin of life on planet Earth || A proposal for all audiences that will cover the entire province

Admire and feel the touch of rocks over 400,000 years old, make nocturnal astronomical observations, learn about the biodiversity of legendary ponds or see insect, fish and leaf fossils from 130 million years ago are some of the activities proposed by the Patronat de Turism de la Diputació with the route Joan Oró: The origin of life on our planet, a journey through 500 million years through the territory of Lleida to learn how life was generated on Earth until today. It is an open and free itinerary that shows the origins of life on the blue planet through a tour of 7 route points in Lleida. The tour, explained point by point in an understandable and informative way, is an excuse to disseminate and pay tribute to the figure of the biochemist Joan Oró Florensa, an international scientific reference in the study of the origin of life and whose centenary is commemorated .

“Lleida is a territory recognized at the tourist level for our natural and cultural heritage, but we needed to make known the scientific heritage and what better way than to take advantage of the centenary of Joan Oró to launch this proposal”, commented Juli Alegre, director of the Tourism Board of the Lands of Lleida. The content of the route will take visitors to unique and varied locations such as the Astronomical Park of Montsec, in Àger; the Pyrenees Geological Open Museum, in Tremp; the Estany de Montcortès, in the Pallars Sobirà; the Montsec Interpretation Centre, in Vilanova de Meià; the Mirador del Cretaci, in Alt Urgell; the Dinosfera and Conca Dellà museums, in Vilanova de Meia and Isona; and the rock complex of Roca dels Moros, in El Cogul.

“It is a proposal for all audiences.
