Tourism of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur attracts foreign experts

Turkish experts have studied the possibilities of tourism in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur.

As Day.Az reports with reference to Trend, this was stated by the Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan Fuad Nagiyev during a speech at a conference on the topic “Health tourism of Azerbaijan: development opportunities” held in the city of Shusha.

“The State Tourism Agency has assessed health tourism resources and prepared a reporting document “Health tourism in Azerbaijan – current status and development prospects,” he said.

F. Nagiyev noted that in connection with the development of the sector, a working group was formed with the participation of representatives of various public and private, as well as public associations.

“Further development of naftalan oil as a tourism product, promotion of the resource to European and new markets are among the main goals. I should note that in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur there are also areas with rich potential for health tourism. With the involvement of specialists from Turkey, these areas were a study of tourism resources, including health tourism, was carried out, and corresponding proposals were made.

In this direction, of course, Kalbajar and its balneological capabilities especially stand out. Of the 5 tourist and recreational zones proposed in the prepared conceptual document for the development of tourism in Kalbajar, two have a health tourism profile, and two are around mineral thermal springs.

In addition, since Lachin is also rich in mineral and thermal water resources, it has corresponding potential for health tourism. The air and recreational capabilities of the city of Shusha can contribute to the development of health tourism,” added F. Nagiyev.

It should be noted that the State Tourism Agency is holding a conference in the city of Shusha on the topic “Health tourism of Azerbaijan: development opportunities.”

The conference is attended by officials of the State Tourism Agency, special representative offices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Health, about 200 specialists in the field of healthcare and medical tourism from Azerbaijan and a number of foreign countries.

Panel sessions “Health tourism of Azerbaijan as a direction: current state and opportunities”, “Global and successful experience in health tourism: proposals for Azerbaijan”, “Medical tourism of Azerbaijan: a look into the future and strategy” are planned at the conference. An industrial exhibition of health tourism will also open.
