Tourism sector in Tunisia records a significant recovery

Data from the Central Bank of Tunisia indicated that the tourism sector in Tunisia recorded a recovery during the current season, achieving a 6.7 percent increase compared to last year.

According to the data, “the tourism sector in Tunisia achieved revenues worth 4.53 billion dinars from the beginning of the year until August 2024.”

According to the data, “those in charge of the tourism sector in Tunisia aspire to reach 10 million tourists during the current year, to exceed the number recorded in 2023 (8 million tourists) and the figures for the reference year 2019, which expressed the peak of the tourism boom in Tunisia with 9 million tourists.”

According to the Central Bank, “European tourists contributed primarily to the recovery of Tunisian tourism, as their number reached 1.77 million European tourists, in addition to Algerian tourists.”

Ayman Al-Rahmani, Director of Studies and International Cooperation at the Tunisian Tourism Office, confirmed that “5.8 million tourists have arrived in Tunisia since the beginning of the year until mid-August.”

The Economic Impact Research data issued by the World Travel and Tourism Council expected that “the tourism sector will pump 23 billion dinars into the Tunisian economy in 2024, and that the amount will reach, with appropriate support from the government, more than 32 billion dinars over the next 10 years.”
