BOLZANO. The summer survey of the Economic Barometer of the Economic Research Institute of the Chamber of Commerce of Bolzano shows a weakening of the turnover dynamics in the tourism sector. The assessments of profitability in the current year are generally positive but differ between the individual branches.

The climate of confidence in the tourism sector is affected by the decline in household purchasing power due to inflation. This year, in fact, businesses expect a slowdown in turnover dynamicsmainly due to the lower spending by tourists from other Italian provinces.

There is less optimism among bar and café operators, who complain about a decline in turnover with local South Tyrolean customers, despite increases in sales prices. More than a quarter of them believe that profitability will be unsatisfactory this year. Employment in tourism continued to grow in 2024: between January and May, the average number of employees exceeded 32,400, an increase of 4.3 percent compared to the same period last year. For the coming months, companies expect a further slight increase in employment.
