Palakkad ∙ A tourist bus carrying 42 students and five teachers from Ernakulam Mulanthurutthi Baselius Vidyaniketan School to Ooty collided with a KSRTC bus and overturned into a swamp, killing 9 passengers. 12 people were seriously injured.

The accident took place at 12 am today near the Kollamtara bus stop at Anchumoorthimangalam in the National Highway Walayar – Vadakancheri region. The police said that the number of accidents could be higher. 24 people have minor injuries. The injured were admitted to Palakkad District Hospital. Students of classes 10, plus one and plus two were in the bus.

While trying to overtake the car in front, the tourist bus lost control and rushed behind the KSRTC bus. Rain at the time of the accident also added to the momentum of the tragedy. Body remains are scattered at the accident site.

The KSRTC bus was going from Kottarakkara to Coimbatore. The overturned tourist bus was cut to pieces and the passengers were pulled out. There were 49 passengers in the KSRTC bus. The police, fire brigade and locals are continuing the rescue operation till late at night.
