The Government of El Salvador continued to work for the safety of the population and foreign visitors, during the holiday period that has just ended, through the Summer 2024 Plan, which included comprehensive strategies implemented by the institutions that make up the National System. of Civil Protection.
The Civil Protection Lifeguard Unit collaborated in this extensive deployment, which was in charge of the aquatic safety of vacationers. This specialized team ensured the well-being of people in 110 strategic points on 28 beaches in the territory, where no deaths due to asphyxiation due to immersion were reported.
This work, at the same time, is serving as an example so that businesses that have swimming pools or access to the sea pay due importance to the safety of their visitors, while they enter the water, highlighted the director of PROCIVIL, Luis Alonso Amaya.
“More and more restaurants and beach hotels are being more responsible in including lifeguards on their payroll. I congratulate those who have done it, but I call on them to certify that they are a professional who has the capacity to carry out a water rescue,” he declared.
The official emphasized that it is not just about having personnel designated for aquatic safety, but rather that they have the skills and abilities to carry out competent tasks. He highlighted that the Lifeguard Unit is made up of highly trained professionals, who, daily, follow strict physical fitness training.
Meanwhile, Amaya assessed that the Summer 2024 Plan, in general terms, has had satisfactory results, thanks to the work carried out by each of the institutions that make up the National Civil Protection System, in compliance with the mandate of President Nayib Bukele, to work depending on the safety of Salvadorans.
