Tourists thronged Kanyakumari yesterday to celebrate the holiday.

The world famous tourist destination of Kanyakumari is visited by a large number of domestic and foreign tourists daily. Tourist arrivals are also high during the April and May summer holiday seasons.

Thousands of tourists flocked to Kanyakumari yesterday for the Saturday holiday. They had gathered at the Triveni Sangam beach area where the sea meets the early morning to watch the sunrise. But, the sunrise view is not clear due to the clouds.

Then the tourists took a blissful bath from early morning at the Mukkadal Sangam. Following this, Sami performed darshan at the Bhagwati Amman temple in Kanyakumari.

Travel by boat

Then there was the long queue at the boat dock to view the Vivekananda Memorial Hall and the Thiruvalluvar statue located in the middle of the Kanyakumari sea. Boat traffic has been delayed for the past one week due to low sea level.

But, the ferry service started at exactly 8am yesterday. Tourists stood in long queues and boarded the boat to Vivekananda Mandapam. Also, Gandhi Memorial Hall, Kamaraj Mani Mandapam, Tsunami Memorial Park, Tamilannai Park on the beach road and the Ecological Park were all overflowing with tourists from yesterday morning. Following this, the tourist police and the Coast Guard police were engaged in intensive surveillance on the beach.
