After two months of an emollient official campaign, finally the serious things? While the candidates for the presidency of Medef had until Friday evening to collect 150 sponsorships, we are now heading towards a three-way race for the succession to Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux.
Unsurprisingly, the current delegate president of the Medef Patrick Martin – big favorite in the ballot scheduled for July 6 – has crossed without incident the bar of sponsorships necessary to have the right to present himself. It even collected 460 sponsorships, or 82% of the members of the General Assembly of the employers’ organization concerned by the procedure. The number two of the employers’ organization has had time to crisscross all the territorial federations, and has already won the support of a major player in the business world with the powerful UIMM (Union of Industries and Metallurgy Trades).
Two competitors in front
He will face Dominique Carlac’h. After a first failed application in 2018, the 54-year-old entrepreneur claims 345 sponsorships and hopes to shake up the game. “There has long been background noise suggesting that the election was bent in advance. This is not the case, and these 345 sponsorships are a very strong signal. Now the counters are reset with this final, we have to move on to the substantive debate, ”explains to “Echos” the president of the innovation consulting company D & Consultants.
Third possible candidate, Pierre Brajeux claims to have overcome this first obstacle. “He has collected the necessary sponsorship to continue to carry in this new stage to come a Medef of change of course”, indicates one in his entourage. The small business world had been wondering for several weeks about the chances of the deputy president of the French Security Federation to take this step, when he denounced an election “locked” by Patrick Martin.
On the other hand, there will be no fourth person on the starting line. A declared time, Olivier Klotz, the president of Medef Alsace, finally gave up presenting himself. As for the Ile-de-France entrepreneur Guillaume Cairou, who declared himself very late in April, he failed to obtain more than 80 votes. “These 80 sponsorships obtained in a short time constitute a victory for the entrepreneurship that I wanted to embody and pluralism at Medef”, he explains, declaring “want to continue the fight to dust off this institution which remains unpopular”.
The Medef statutory and ethics committee is due to meet on Tuesday to validate the final list of contenders for the post of boss of bosses.
