Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Gideon Saar opened the meeting of the Judicial Selection Committee this morning (Monday): “The Judicial Selection Committee has a heavy responsibility.”

Saar: “Excellence. Balance. Diversity”
“In selecting Israeli judges in general and in shaping the image of the Supreme Court in particular. After three months of hard work since the publication of the first list of candidates – I will present today to the committee a resolution appointing four judges to the Supreme Court.”
He added: “This proposal reflects the right choice according to the three indicators I set as a compass: excellence. Balance. Diversity. The proposal I will bring and I hope the committee will approve it by the majority required by law includes excellent candidates.

A crystal of quality that will add fine professional power to our senior court. The composition that will be imported is also diverse and balanced in terms of legal perceptions and reflects our diverse social mosaic.
In November we could not reach this conclusion and out of the same sense of responsibility I then canceled the committee meeting.
From the moment I reached the right result to the best of my knowledge and judgment – it is my duty as chairman of the committee to lead this election and that is how I act today.
“I thank all the members of the committee without exception who have acted, each according to his perception, in recent months to bring about the best choice. I believe there is a good chance that we will get out of here today with a choice. With an excellent choice,” he signed.
MK Simcha Rotman (Religious Zionism) commented last night in a knitted studio on the deal that emerges in the Judicial Selection Committee: “Right now, according to the wind, this is the situation. I do not think that even one person who is conservative can be found in these appointments.”
