That Toyota is the largest automobile group by sales volume is not a surprise. It has already closed the last two years in first place in the classification and now, that the halfway point of 2023 has already been passed, everything indicates that it will be a result that will be repeated.

The Japanese brand reached 5.4 million registrations, 5.7% more than a year ago. This translated into a turnover of 127,380 million euros, an increase of 21.9%, and these, in turn, into a net profit of 11,745 million according to the current exchange rate.

Behind him, by volume, are the Volkswagen and Hyundai groups, which, respectively, closed June with an accumulated amount of 4.4 and 3.7 million euros, 12.8% and 11% more than in 2022.

The German consortium achieved a turnover of 156,267 million euros, 18.2% more, and a net profit of 8,521 million, 20% less, in the first half of the year. The Korean has been going strong and his figures support it: his turnover of 89,119 million (+ 22%) translated into a net profit of 8,025 million, 50% more.

In terms of profit, the second place is occupied by the company that is outside the podium in sales. This is relatively frequent, especially in the case of ‘premium’ manufacturers –BMW was in first place in the result in 2022–, but in this case it is a consortium whose bulk of the range is general: Stellantis.

The French-Italian-American group closed half the year with 3.2 million registered units, 9% more than in the same period last year. Billing amounted to 98,368 million euros (+12%), and net profit reached 10,918 million, 37% more.

Already in fifth position for profit, the ‘premium’ arena begins. Mercedes was ahead of BMW with a result of 7,508 million (+13.8%), compared to 6,620 (-50%) for its Bavarian rival. After them, the first American manufacturer on the list: Tesla, with 4,791 million, 6.5% more.
